A Small Town Big on Culture
Residents of Adrian, Michigan don't have to drive all the way to "the big city" for culture and entertainment. That's because back in 1968, some prominent folks in the community saved itthe Croswell Opera House from the wrecking ball. It's Michigan's oldest continuously operating theatre, the third oldest in the U.S., and on the national register of historical places. Members of the Amish community worked on its construction - and the building reflects their commitment to craftsmanship.
Madison Avenue to the Rescue
At one time, only a few bare bulbs lit the area underneath the balcony. When the theater replaced them, they wanted lights that did justice to the building's history and architecture. A Croswell employee recommended Rejuvenation, and that's how five of our Classical Revival Madison Avenue fixtures got installed, providing proper lighting for theatergoers.
A Solid Choice
The Madison Avenue is a good fit for the Croswell, since this commercial-scale bowl fixture works well in formal public spaces. Its distinctively large pressed-glass shade features Classical Revival motifs like acanthus leaves and egg & dart banding. For years, we produced this shade from its original early-20th-century mould, until it became so worn as to be unusable. We then reproduced the mould in exacting detail, and the shade remains one of the largest pieces of pressed lighting glass still made today.
