Rejuvenation Customer: Grand Central Bakery
Grand Central Bakery has their finger in a lot of pies, so to speak.
They're in the artisan bread business, but according to president Ben Davis, there are also elements of preservation and the salvage trade. The bakery location pictured below is housed in a renovated trucking depot from the 1960s that stored shipping containers, and local art honoring the area's industrial roots dots the walls.
However, the piece de resistance is the beautiful arched window salvaged from a razed building where the Seattle Federal Building currently stands.
It was lovingly saved by Ben's mother's husband, an architect, and for many years was part of the architecture's firm décor. In its latest incarnation, this stately window frames a behind-the-scenes view of the bustling bakery.
It's thrilling to see our Streamline-style Skyports performing their duties in a well-designed commercial space.
And, we're always struck at how impressive our fixtures look in multiples. Three hover above the "community table" at Grand Central Bakery. According to the general manager, at first folks were a bit shy about rubbing elbows with fellow bakery patrons while they sipped their coffee and munched on sandwiches and pastries. But now, the community table is often full, especially during the lunchtime rush. We're glad our fixtures help provide the glow.
