As old-house crazies go, Christine Choffin is a late bloomer. She reports that growing up in the Bay Area "in a '50s ranch-style neighborhood, then living in apartments, and finally a newly (and poorly) constructed house" didn't get her much exposure to old houses. But her first sight of Portland's neighborhoods full of classic cottages and foursquares inspired Christine to move north and purchase a 1923 Craftsman Bungalow (with a lovely kitchen nook).
A passionate do-it-yourselfer, Christine laughs at her old-house learning curve. First project? Remodeling the bathroom. Second project? Restoring the vintage character in her kitchen. Third project? Remodeling the remodeled bathroom so it looked as good as the kitchen.
