15" Neoclassical Shade

  • Though it's an awful sounding word, gadrooning just means adding a decorative motif consisting of convex curves in a series. This sweet technique was widely used during the Italian Renaissance and in the 18th century. Classic Revival design was meant to mimic the ideals of ancient Greek and Roman architecture. Rather than heaping detail upon detail, Classic Revival fixtures pick an element - be it the curve of an elegant shade holder or an acanthus leaf motif - and emphasize it with a simplicity of design.
