Had you witnessed the advent of electric lights, you might have seen the original of this desk lamp. It was offered in an 1883 catalogue from S. Bergmann & Co. of New York, just as gas lamps were giving way to their electrified siblings. Sigmund Bergmann, in fact, was one of the fathers of electric lighting; he was Thomas Edison's partner. While Edison worked on his light bulb, Bergmann worked on the means to use it. A lamp with two adjustable arms would have done the trick, amplifying and directing the light of those dim early bulbs.

The shade clips allow the shade to float slightly, which creates a halo of illumination around the socket. The Polished Brass interior of the shade creates a flattering, golden quality of light.

Quantities are limited. In the event of unfulfilled orders, customer will be contacted.
