Tree Branch Side Table

Item #D1501

Description

Faux bois (French for "false wood") furniture originated in 18th-century France, when highly skilled rocailleurs (stoneworkers) created naturalistic furniture from wire frames and colored cement. Typically used in the garden, faux boix pieces made a whimsical foil to actual trees and branches. The style migrated to America in the early 20th century, and over time, also migrated indoors. Though this little side table looks as if it emerged from an enchanted winter forest, its delicate appearance belies a sturdy iron frame.
