Apothecary Trade Sign, c1880

Item #F0046

Description

You may not be mixing your own poultices or tonics, but no matter: the pharmacist is in! This wonderful antique mortar and pestle would have been mounted outside an apothecary in the late 1800s, telegraphing the shop's purpose to the literate and illiterate alike. We like to imagine it in a new home with a similar bent: perhaps a purveyor of herbal remedies or a perfumery?

Note on condition - there is an old repair on the bottom plate of the sign; it was stitched back together with wire.
