Cast Bronze Finial From a Best Buggy Whip Display Rack C1890 Item # F0155
Even the best buggy whips could not stand up against the speed (and growing popularity) of the automobile. This cast bronze finial comes to us from the last few years of the 19th century, which also happened to be the last few years of the buggy whip. The star-shaped finial would have graced the top of a display rack, upon which hung dozens of the best buggy whips in production.
When Henry Ford's creation hit the roadways, horse carriage whip and crop makers found that their products were quickly becoming obsolete, having no practical application for automobiles. With that in mind, this beautiful and rare decorative element stands as a relic of the bygone era of four-legged transport, and of the companies that died with the birth of the automobile.
