Monumental Terra Cotta Steer Head Medallion c1920 Item # F1904
Salvaged from the front of a meat packing plant in Buffalo, NY, this astonishing bull's head is an incredible relic from the heyday of agricultural-industrial dominance. Weighing nearly 80 pounds, the terra cotta proves to be a very durable, yet gentle medium. Note the phenomenal care that was put into creating this piece, which is so life-like and sweet, and the perfectly weathered original patina it retains. The crazing of the glazed terra cotta finish is also exquisite. It is truly an exceptional piece of rare Americana. A relic like this comes along once in a lifetime – if that.
While the face and neck are completely intact and free of any chips, there is a large (repaired) crack that runs from the base of the medallion up past his ear. Additionally, one of his horns has been broken and reattached. Neither of these flaws detract from the character (or stability) of the piece. Please see photos for details.
In order for this piece to be mounted in your home, we have designed and built a steel frame, which comes with a wall-mount bracket. The piece weighs approximately 80 lbs and the bracket will need to be solidly affixed to a stud before the steer head is hung. Please see all photos for reference to the mounting framework.
This piece ships by Curbside Delivery. Upon placing your order you will be contacted by a customer service associate to discuss delivery time and details as they pertain to this one-of-a-kind item.
