Y&E Filing Cabinet in Quartersawn Oak and Masonite c1920s Item # F6309
Standing 53" tall, this impressive oak filing cabinet likely would have held standard-sized vertical files in a firm or office. Each of the 8 drawers are outfitted with japanned copper handles and label slots, which boast the typical styling of Yawman & Erbe's hardware. Note that, while the drawers, top and back are all made of beautiful quartersawn oak, the sides are made of Masonite, a composite material that was sometimes substituted for wood. The Masonite was likely used in leu of oak on the sides, as there was probably a row of similar cabinets, lining the wall of the office. We like the look of the Masonite, which, like the oak, has great character in its own right. Today, this piece would be a unique dresser, display cabinet or document storage case.
- Historical Style: Classic
- Condition notes: Nice condition with original finish still intact.
