Pair of Schoolhouse Chairs by American Seating Co C1930 Item # G0358
Founded in 1886, the American Seating Company is one of the most prolific manufacturers of portable furniture in the country. The set of chairs before you was part of their specialized line of school chairs, which began production in 1920. Built to be lightweight, these chairs were the result of careful ergonomics research, which focused on designs that offered comfort while encouraging good posture. We love the folded steel bases, which has been stripped to reveal raw metal, as well as the maple-veneered bent plywood seats. Meant to seat Elementary-aged children, the seats are only 13" high. Sold as a pair.
- Historical Style: Industrial
- Condition notes: Some signs or wear in the paint and metal of the bases. Some areas of the veneer have been pulled away, but the cracks and breaks have been smoothed out – see all photos for details.
