If a chandelier could be a rock star, this one might be Ozzy Osbourne. With its distinctive and wide-spread tapered sheet metal arms, this is a spectacular example of a gas fixture form that was produced from the 1870s well into the new century. The fixture combines detailed white metal castings with solid brass accents parts and has been finished in a satin black enamel with gilt incised decoration and polished brass highlights. The shades are original 4"-fitter crown tops with deep-etched cameos and a scalloped rim.

We should also say that like many an aging rocker, this one has also received a few replacement parts. While the overall integrity of the fixture is pretty high, in order to make it work using electricity we shuffled a component here and there, and added a couple of missing parts (like the finial). Nevertheless, it still rocks.

Fixtures like this one were commonly used in stores, institutions, offices, and other large commercial spaces where a fancy multi-arm chandelier would have been too much. Today, it would make a fantastic kitchen island light, or it could even find a new home in a commercial setting much like it would have originally hung.
