Incorporated in 1898, the Holophane Glass Company was responsible for the development of "prismatic glass" - finely crafted clear crystal reflectors that used scientifically designed prism-shaped ribs to evenly and efficiently refract and direct the dim light of early carbon-filament light bulbs. The exceptionally high quality of Holophane's molds (hand polished to a smoothness unmatched by any other company) and exquisite glass (for many years Holophane's shades were pressed by the Heisey Glass Company) represent the pinnacle of early glass reflectors. Often mis-identified as "halophane" shades, Holophane reflectors are usually marked at the fitter neck. The original Holophane patent is 563,836.

Shown on our Industrial pendant, the George with our 60W Quad-Loop Tungsten Filament Bulb , both sold separately.
