Vintage Shade Item # R0295
Incorporated in 1898, the Holophane Glass Company was responsible for the development of "prismatic glass" - finely crafted clear crystal reflectors that used scientifically designed prism-shaped ribs to evenly and efficiently refract and direct the dim light of early carbon-filament light bulbs. The exceptionally high quality of Holophane's molds (hand polished to a smoothness unmatched by any other company) and exquisite glass (for many years Holophane's shades were pressed by the Heisey Glass Company) represent the pinnacle of early glass reflectors. Often mis-identified as "Holophane" shades, Holophane reflectors are usually marked at the fitter neck. The original Holophane patent is 563,836. Shown on our Industrial pendant, the George with our 40W 1890 Carbon-filament Bulb , both sold separately.
