The handle on the top of this bell winds up the spring inside, where tension is held until released to make the bell ring. This can be done in several ways: with a pull cord on either side of the door, or with a pushbutton on the outside of the door. Its chime is not unlike that of an old telephone.

Note: Nickel plated steel. The plating is worn irregularly, as can be seen in the photo.
