Clockwork Bell, patent 1897 Item # R0367
The knob on the top of this cast iron bell winds the inner spring, holding tension until it's released to make the bell ring. This can be done in several ways: with a pull cord on either side of the door, or with a pushbutton on the outside of the door.
Note: As is clear in the photo, there's a fair amount of wear to the nickel plating.
