While we tend to want to lump period fixtures into a few simple style categories, the real story was a lot more nuanced and many fixtures were a hybrid of popular trends. This dome fixture is a good example, with touches of Arts & Crafts, Colonial, Old English, and even Victorian in its styling. Domes like this one were the popular choice over dining room tables from about 1904 up to 1910, when showers and bowls became the hot ticket.

This hybrid character gives our example a little more flexibility than most to fit in a range of homes. Its more interesting features include a pair of gas arms for an alternative or supplement to the electric lights in the dome, a less common hexagonal shape, crenelated rolls at the top for a somewhat medieval look, and a chain-like application around the rim that would have once held silk or glass-bead fringe. And then there is that remarkable glass - we'll let it speak for itself.
