Description
This less common pair of P. & F. Corbin lever-style sash locks feature wonderful Eastlake surface decoration and a handsome combination of cast iron body and cast bronze locking cap.
About this type of sash lock, Clarence Howard Blackall states in his 1889 reference “Builder’s Hardware” that “lever sash fasts with locking lever are those in which the lever works without a spring but is held either closed or open by means of an auxiliary lever, a form of sash fast which has met with considerable favor as being one of the first which had any right to the qualification of being burglar proof. The action is perfectly simple. The lever is on the lower sash and is held either open or shut by a smaller hinged lever which drops by gravity into the rebates of the bed plate.” For the type shown here by Corbin, the primary lever is released by raising the secondary lever at the rear.
