Very Rare Early Nouveau Semi-Flush Fixture, c1904 Item # R0950
Let's start by saying that fixtures like this one just don't come along very often. Simply finding antique fixtures in this exceptionally useful, yet uncommon, close-to-the-ceiling form is hard enough but combine that with the deep and rich patina, the unique Art Nouveau ornamental canopy castings, and the remarkably elegant and strong design presence, and you've got something truly special.
Dating to the transitional period between 1900 and 1910 when Victorian-era Empire flourish was evolving into Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts, Classical Revival, Colonial Revival, and other diverse styles, this fixture captures the eclectic character of the time.
Note: The second photo shows this fixture with carbon-filament bulbs and without the beaded bulb covers - either way being pretty much exactly what it would have looked like when new (patina notwithstanding). The authentic antique beaded bulb covers (they were typically imported from Europe) have some imperfections, but remain fully functional.
Historical Style: Victorian: Art Nouveau
