Gilt Neo-Grec 2-Arm Gasolier w/Star Shades, c1872 Item # R0968
Gas lighting of the 1870s was dominated by the intricate white-metal castings of the Neo-Grec and Renaissance Revival styles. Though weaker and more brittle than cast brass or bronze, this material (also known as spelter) flowed easily when melted and allowed for remarkable detail and texture. The more simple center body of this gas chandelier provides a foil to the ornate arms. We have fitted this fixture with authentic antique 2-5/8" gas shades, frosted and decorated with tiny hand-cut stars.
Note: Canopy, shade holders and flame armbacks are new replacements.
Historical Style: Victorian: Neo-Grec
