Item #R0989

Fancy" cast iron bin pulls like these became popular during the 1870s, and despite the waning of their Neo-Grec style, were sold until nearly the turn of the century. The interwoven and flattened decorative flourishes are typical of vernacular Neo-Grec design trends of the decade, which would be supplanted by the more exotic Anglo-Japanese and Eastlake-inspired Aesthetic Movement in the 1880s. Among cast iron bin pulls of the 1870s and 1880s, this is one of our favorite designs. Something about the flowing relief and the clean, simple oval design make these both old and contemporary at the same time, and also very comfortable on the fingers. This design was patented on December 23, 1873.
