Description

With an original gray-painted finish mostly intact, a sprinkling of rust for gritty-pretty authenticity, and a new gold twisted cord for replacement wiring this is a great example of the popular (and almost bomb-proof) BH series of articulated fixtures known as "Localites" made by Fostoria Pressed Steel Corporation in Fostoria, Ohio. Developed around 1936, Localites were marketed specifically for use as "localized" lighting for bench and machine work in industrial settings, and they rose to prominence during the overhaul and upgrade of factories during the Second World War. Form follows functions in these sturdy fixtures - Localites have been made the same way for so long that it can be hard to tell how old any particular example is. In fact, this heavy-duty design has proven so capable that it remains in production today (though now the company is called Fostoria Process Equipment and is a division of TPI Corporation).
