Set of 2 Montgomery Ward Porcelier Sconces, c1949 Item # R1098
The well-known Porcelier brand of porcelain fixtures offered more decorative style than most of its competitors, carving out a niche in the market with more elaborately detailed and flamboyantly painted fixtures for rooms beside the kitchen and bath. This popular Porcelier design was widely distributed and offered in a number of different decorative treatments – our example was sold by Montgomery Ward in 1949 and described as having "genuine platinum trim."
Porcelain light fixtures first rose in prominence during the late 1920s. Their "sanitary" character, easy styling, range of colors, low costs, and material availability made them very popular during the Depression and World War II years, and they remained a mass-market staple well into the 1950s. Most were intended for kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms, and they frequently featured exposed bulbs and painted flowers or metallic pin striping.
Finish: Original porcelain with silver stripe.
Note: Plug has been disabled for safety.
