Pair of Yale & Towne "Florian" Push Plates, c1900 Item # R1229


Retaining traces of their original copper plating, these striking and hard-to-find cast iron "Florian" push plates were produced by Yale & Towne of Stamford, Connecticut and date to around the turn of the century.

The "Florian" pattern was introduced during the transitional period when Victorian ornamentation was giving way to new "modern" treatments. Yale & Towne classified "Florian" as belonging to the Modern School of Ornament, putting it in the same stylistic category as designs they offered by architect Louis Sullivan, among others
