Distinctive Hall Lantern w/Amber Glass, c1928 Item # R1450
While at one level a 1920s hall lantern is a 1920s hall lantern, at another level, this one is both interesting and unusual. For starters, the antique pewter finish is less common for the period, and it offers a nice complement to the warm amber glass with its cathedral or hammer texture and rare domed form. The strapping features a very classy Greek key motif that introduces refinement to the rustication of the glass. Then there is the delightful hinged bottom panel with frosted glass lens that distributes light downward and prevents glare from looking up into the light. A wonderful period fixture.
