Exceptional Early Cast Iron No Trespassing Sign, c1870

Item #R1519

Description

This is one of those items that occasionally comes through our salvage department that gets us all atwitter and we debate whether to sell it all. Found underneath the foundation of a Portland building originally built for the railroad in 1876, it is our assumption that this sign must have come from the building located on the site previously. The classic message, familiar industrial typeface and typical cast iron execution would all seem to hint that perhaps this sign isn't as old as its discovery location would lead one to believe - and then you read through to the end of the sign... can that wording be anything but almost 150 years old?? We don't know for sure, but we can believe it.

Note: Intended for a mounting pole approximately 2-1/4" in Diameter.

Price as shown: $900.00
