Pair of Gryphon Hall Tree Hooks, c1890 Item # R1874

While this set of hooks likely dates from the end of the 19th century, the legend of the gryphon goes back much further. Indeed, the earliest representations of these part-lion-part-eagle hybrids are thought to be frescoes in a 15th-century B.C.E. palace on the Greek isle of Crete. In Greek mythology, the gryphon was a guardian of gods and treasures. Even if you delegate only the guarding of tote bags and umbrellas to this imposing pair, they will still add a divine decorative presence to your hall with their elaborately detailed bodies and rich patina.

  • Notes: Thickness of mounting material not to exceed 1-1/4"
