Description

Never has so little articulation been given so much over-design as in the Equipoise bracket. Patented around 1907 and 1908, the Equipoise was designed to keep the angle of the shade consistent as one moved the bracket through a range of motions, and hold the arm in place when it was released. Yesterday's over-engineering is today's quirky charm, and - like the rooster's flashy comb - the elaborate scrolled decoration at the top draws attention to this fixture that rules the roost of collectable industrial lighting.

The distinctive 3-1/4" cased green shade with ground glass bottom is rare itself. This type of shade was originally patented by Sylvanus R. Kneeland of the Kneeland Reflector Company in Boston, though it was frequently referred to as a McCreary shade after one of Kneeland's best-known licensed distributors.
