Gilt Streamline Pendant w/Art Deco Shade, c1935 Item # R2049
Semi-indirect lighting that diffused light through large conical shades and also reflected it up onto the ceiling was a very popular trend of the Depression period, with fixtures like this one appearing around 1934 and 1935, mainly for commercial applications, but also occasionally in homes. This distinctive and high-style Art Deco shade, which was acquired separately from the fixture, was offered by J.C. Virden in a range of sizes and colors during the mid-to-late 1930s, and remains a much appreciated design of the era to this day.
Note: There is a small surface chip on the interior of the shade where the chain pulls through (see 2nd photo)
