Center Post Ceiling Fixture, c1940 Item # R2053
Native to the rooms in older houses where we get our beauty sleep, original center-post fixtures like this one usually come with a softly tinted decorative bowl shade of thick pressed glass. Though this style of light is common enough, even today, there has been an evolution of the form. When first introduced in the mid-1930s, they were smaller and mostly used in bedrooms and other less formal spaces. By the end of the decade, a strong demand had developed for larger and more elaborate versions for use in living rooms and dining rooms. This one, a Colonial Revival standby, seems to have been made with this more formal presentation in mind.
- Notes: The shallowness of this shade requires appliance style bulbs.
- Historical Style: Colonial Revival
