Ribbed and Ruffled Prism Hood Shade R2277, c1900 Item # R2277
Like the skirts of a flamenco dancer, this shade is all about movement and dazzle. But that dynamism has a very specific purpose: The glass prisms were carefully designed at the exact angle that would reflect the most light, thus amplifying the dim glow of early bulbs. As a matter of fact, some early manufacturers claimed that shades like this could actually double the candlepower of a lamp.
And speaking of bulbs…shades like this were designed to hang directly on the neck of the light bulb, doing away with "unsightly" shade holders. As a result, not all modern bulbs will fit through this shade.
Shown on our Burnside fixture and with the bulb that will work best, both sold separately.
- Note: Shown on our Burnside fixture (A2340) and with our 60W Victorian Carbon-filament Bulb (C5494), both sold separately
- Historical Style: Period Basic
