Chiffon Prism Hood Shade R2280, c1900 Item # R2280
Like the chiffon evening gown worn by a silver-screen siren, this one-of-a-kind shade is all elegance and allure. As captivating as her beauty is, allow yourself to be blinded by her science: the prismatic angles were scientifically designed to reflect the most light, thus amplifying the dim glow of early bulbs. Indeed, some early manufacturers claimed that shades like this could actually double the candlepower of a lamp.
Called a "prism hood," this type of shade was designed to hang directly on the neck of the light bulb – no shade holder required. And while the shade thus takes center stage, it also means not all modern bulbs will fit.
Shown on our Burnside fixture and with the bulb that will work best, both sold separately.
