Scalloped Prism Hood Shade R2277, c1900 Item # R2285
Like the right-brain, left-brain balance many of us aspire to achieve, this one-of-a-kind glass shade is equal parts art and science. The art: scalloped edges, flouncy top, sparkly facets. The science: prismatic angles scientifically designed to reflect the most light, thus amplifying the dim glow of early bulbs. Indeed, some early manufacturers claimed that shades like this could actually double the candlepower of a lamp.
Called a "prism hood," this type of shade was designed to hang directly on the neck of the light bulb – no shade holder required. And while the shade thus takes center stage, it also means not all modern bulbs will fit.
Shown on our Burnside fixture and with the bulb that will work best, both sold separately.
- Note: Shown on our Burnside fixture (A2340) and with our 60W Victorian Carbon-filament Bulb (C5494), both sold separately
- There is a chip in the fitter edge (shown in first photo)
- Historical Style: Period Basic
