Like a hoop skirt worn by a bygone southern lady, this glass shade has a carefully engineered underlying structure belied by its feminine wiles. In fact, its prismatic angles were scientifically designed to reflect the most light, thus amplifying the dim glow of early bulbs. Indeed, some early manufacturers claimed that shades like this could actually double the candlepower of a lamp.

Called a "prism hood," this type of shade was designed to hang directly on the neck of the light bulb – no shade holder required. And while the shade thus takes center stage, it also means not all modern bulbs will fit.

Shown on our Burnside fixture and with the bulb that will work best, both sold separately.
