Pair of Historical Revival Acorn Sconces, c1925 Item # R2627

This pair of antique sconces represents one of the early-20th-century's major lighting manufacturers and a peculiar phase of American design. The lights feature their original Hubbell pull-chain sockets. Harvey Hubbell invented the pull-chain socket in 1896; for decades after, his company's hallmark acorn at the end of the chain was the mark of quality in lighting.

Historic Revival, popular in the 1920s and '30s, venerated designs of the past but disregarded the constraints of consistency by combining styles from different eras. This pair exemplifies the freewheeling mashup: Classical fleur-de-lis and garlands paired with Colonial candles.

  • Historical Style: Historic Revival
  • Notes: Original Hubbell Pull-chain socket with original acorn.
