Captivating Pair of Polychrome Cast "Dolphin" Sconces, c1935

Item #R2871

Description

Almost undoubtedly used flanking a medicine cabinet in a color-drenched tile bathroom of the 1930s, this priceless (though we have put a price on them) pair of utterly charming wall sconces features dolphins with floral-ringed bare bulbs in their mouths, intricately cast in white metal with the original air-brushed painted finish. Just to be clear, this isn't the familiar mammalian bottle-nosed dolphin of today, but the ever-revived, fish-scaled classical dolphin of Greco-Roman and Beaux Arts fame.
