Chain Pendant W/Beautiful Green Bird-Decorated Shade, C1928 Item # R2982
Pendant fixtures with beautiful painted and decorated shades were a hot trend as bolder, stronger colors swept interiors during the late 1920s and into the 1930s. Often combining Classical Revival roots and detailing with Historic Revival romance and warmth, common schoolhouse-type glass shapes were enhanced with multi-tone treatments, pinstripes, rag textures, and elaborate floral or bird decorations that were applied with decals, stencils or by hand painting. These fixtures were often used in sunrooms, bedrooms, entries, stairwells, hallways or over breakfast tables.
This example has one of the nicest shades of the era, sectioned to evoke a paper lantern with a warm green top and ivory body, highlighted with a vignette of "lovebirds" (we don't actually know what types of birds these are) on a tree branch that repeats three times.
- Historical Style: Classic
- Notes: The decal on the first image is repeated twice, whereas the decal in the second image is not-repeated
- Some of the painted has faded away at the base of the shade, but we feel it just adds character (seen in both images)
