Colonial Revival 2-Light Drop Pan Fixture w/Painted Shades, c1922

Item #R3031

Description

The 1920s saw the convergence of two popular trends – the Colonial Revival and the stamped pan light. Combined in countless ways, Colonial pan lights were ubiquitous in all types of houses – from bungalows to foursquares to Dutch Colonials – yet they always felt right at home with their clean lines, restrained detailing, and casually formal character.

This example features boldly matching acanthus-inspired relief on the canopy, the pan, and even the shadeholders – very unusual. The elegant bell-shaped shades are enhanced by delicate molded detail and a light pink tinting that brings out the design. Each also sports a unique hand-painted vignette in a circular cartouche. This beautiful small chandelier might have hung in an entry, a stairway, a breakfast nook, or a bedroom.
