Classical Revival 2-Light Pan Fixture w/Satin Opal Shades, c1922

Item #R3048

Description

The 1920s saw the convergence of two popular trends – the Colonial Revival and the stamped pan light. Combined in countless ways, Colonial pan lights were ubiquitous in all types of houses – from bungalows to foursquares to Dutch Colonials – yet they always felt right at home with their clean lines, restrained detailing, and casually formal character.

Small two-light oval flush pans like this example were "bread-and-butter" fixtures suitable for a wide range of rooms. The Colonial Revival borrowed heavily from Classical Revival motifs like the lovely stamped pattern on the pan on this fixture delightfully molded satin opal shades. It might have hung in an entry, a stairway, a breakfast nook, or a bedroom.
