Pair of Flying Dutchman Brass Wall Sconces C1940s

Item #R3063

As the legend goes, the Flying Dutchman is a ghost ship, doomed to sail the ocean forever, but never making port. 18th-century sailors would often report seeing lights from another ship on the horizon, but when approached that ship would vanish. This vision was considered a dark portent, and anyone who spied the Flying Dutchman in the distance was considered cursed. This pair of thematic mid-century sconces pay homage to that seafarers myth in the etched name plates on the base of each fixture. A fun, romantic pair of lights that certainly belong on a seaside getaway. Sold as a set of two.
