Description

What's so "transitional" about this fixture, you ask? Well, it straddles the movement from fancy Victorian design to "Modern Colonial" tastes with its distinctive hexagonal paneled motif. While most of the fixture is clean and straightforward, we see the last echoes of frilly Victorian styling in the decorative armbacks, with just a hint of Colonial-inspired beading around the rim of the ceiling canopy.

The sparkling and translucent antique pressed-glass shades here are a perfect period choice for the fixture, too, especially as they are paired with the same carbon-filament bulbs that would originally have been used at the turn of the century. You can see exactly how this glass gently enhanced the dim warm light of these bulbs at the time (and how it just wouldn't look as good today with a glaring compact fluorescent bulb).
