Darling Revival-Style Schoolhouse Fixture, C1928 Item # R3300
The Classical Revival remained strong into the late 1920s and 1930s, finding fresh expression in large and often elaborately decorated opal schoolhouse-type shades used in commercial and some large residential settings. Often executed in pale tones, the decoration added sophistication, warmth, and visual interest to otherwise rather simple lights. These fixtures were typically used in commercial or institutional settings, or in entries and stairwells in larger homes. Today they can have a wonderful air of eclectic formality and restrained romance.
This example has an opal shade with Classically inspired details stenciled in dark peach between heavy roped pinstripes (as well as a bottom design), and features a stamped fixture in copper tinted lacquer over antiqued steel that complements the shade.
- Historical Style: Classical Revival
