Rejuvenation

Pair Of Art Deco Sconces By Markel, C1928

Item #R3620

Description

The late-1920s saw an explosion in the popularity of decorative cast white-metal fixtures with exposed globe bulbs and rich polychrome finishes like this example. Subtly decorative, this pair of fixtures enhance their finely cast geometric details with a gilt painted finish and lovely hand-tinted accents which combine to add rich character and gentle beauty. Shown with period appropriate gold painted bulb, like the one shown, this pair of fixtures will put out a warm glow and would be right at home in one of the countless English, Colonial, Mediterranean or other Historic Revival houses that dotted the automobile suburbs of the 1920s and early 1930s.
