A fantastic flush mount fixture from the Meridian family by Progress. This popular late-mid-century motif was known as "Confetti," justly named for the multiple random holes scattered across shade. Some refer to this effect as Swiss Cheese, but the romance just isn't there for us. We love the hard-to-find fixtures with this treatment, so you can imagine our delight when we found this wonderful light. The design dates to the late 1950s.

As shown in a catalog by Progress in 1960, this design also features a white perforated metal diffuser screen on the lower openings of the globes. This design originally came with plastic jewel inserts that unfortunately have been long gone in this example - we still think it looks pretty great. Hinting at the more expressive Mod lighting to come in a few years, mid-century lights that allow for a touch of eclectic whimsy are as fun to us as the high-end masterpieces.
