Rejuvenation employees head to Gulf Coast to aid in hurricane clean-up
The company will send a team of employees to New Orleans for a week of service.
Portland, Ore. (August 21, 2006) - As the first anniversary of Hurricane Katrina approaches, Rejuvenation is gearing up to send a team of employees to aid in the clean-up efforts that are still much needed in the devastated Gulf Coast region.
Rejuvenation has partnered with Northwest Medical Teams to identify the opportunity that would take best advantage of the company's services. The team will consist of about a dozen Rejuvenation employees who will be prepared for a week of long days and intense labor.
All trip-related costs will be covered, and employees will also receive full pay for two of the five workdays missed. Employees can use there own paid time off (PTO) for the other three days, and can also pull from the company's PTO donation bank (comprised of PTO hours donated by other employees). The PTO donation bank is a great opportunity for employees not going on the trip to contribute to the effort.
"It's wonderful to see a local business stepping up to help people who are still without a home a year after the devastating hurricane," says Catherine Hockett, Gulf Coast coordinator for Northwest Medical Teams. "We hope that Rejuvenation's efforts will remind others that the Gulf Coast region is still very much in need."
Hockett notes that, while many Northwest businesses have been generous with financial aid, Rejuvenation is unique in donating the labor of its employees to help out.
Rejuvenation has a long history of giving back to the community both through its corporate giving program, which donates five percent of the company's pre-tax profits to charity, and through its Days of Service program, which provides company-sponsored days of employee labor to aid various community organizations.
"We're proud of this history," says Rejuvenation General Manager Alysa Rose. "Given that our business serves customers nationwide, we wanted to expand our efforts to reach communities in addition to our immediate Northwest neighborhoods."
Since Katrina destroyed and damaged so many old homes and neighborhoods, the company saw an opportunity to help out in an area that is particularly close to the heart of Rejuvenation's business.
Rose points out that the team of employees heading to the Gulf Coast will be a diverse one. "Our employee base is comprised of people who represent more than 20 different countries around the world. Many of them come from regions that have been similarly affected by other natural disasters, and these employees feel particularly passionate about helping in any way they can."
