Why do some wall bracket specs have "install up or down"?

A common misconception we'd like to dismiss is that all our wall brackets have to be mounted exactly as they're shown in photos or showrooms.

Wall brackets marked "install up or down" can be installed as shown, or turned over in the opposite direction.
