FAQ
How do I pick the right Claw Foot Tub?
Think Spatially: Claw Foot Tubs are freestanding, and are also considerably deeper than most built-in tubs. Claw Foot Tubs also require some free space around their perimeter. We recommend 1"-2" minimum, more if you want your shower curtain to hang freely outside the tub when drying. In truth, the more space you have around the tub, the better; a little extra helps accommodate any measuring mistakes made during plumbing rough-ins.
Inside Mount or Deck Mount?: Inside-mount Claw Foot Tubs are the oldest, most traditional style, and use inside-mount tub fillers. Tub fillers on Deck-mount Claw Foot Tubs mount on the top of the rim, allowing for a little more water depth. (Since the holes for the faucet are not above the overflow, the overflow hole itself is slightly higher on this tub.) Tip: In general, inside mount tub fillers are more traditional and common - and are thus less costly - than deck-mount tub fillers.
The "Classic" Claw Foot Tub: By the early 1920s, the 5 foot and 5-1/2 foot single-ended tub was an established standard. Today, these two sizes prevail in old homes and salvage yards. While slipper tubs and double-ended tubs are also traditional styles, 5' and 5-1/2' single-ended Claw Foot Tubs are the original classic, and the most adaptable.
