FAQ

Comparisons of Lacquered and Unlacquered Polished Brass finishes.

Lacquered Polished Brass lighting preserves a shiny, bright appearance, although the lacquer itself will gradually deteriorate over time. (See "How long does lacquer last?"

We don't recommend using Lacquered Polished Brass lighting in high-humidity areas like bathrooms, kitchens, porches, or in coastal homes. Lacquer failure in these harsh conditions is common, and refinishing is a costly headache.

Unlacquered Polished Brass lighting develops a rich antique patina over time. Unlacquered lighting can also be polished again with relative ease. Applying a clear wax is another time-honored method for slowing the aging process, but it's less permanent than lacquer.
