FAQ

What is "UL damp location" lighting?

Definition: UL damp locations are sheltered outdoor areas that are protected from direct contact with rain, etc.

Shop for UL damp fixtures: Browse the entire list of UL damp-rated fixtures, or see our Porch Lighting group, which contains both UL damp and UL wet fixtures.

Tips:

  • When shopping for porch or outdoor lights, see the "UL Location" line in each fixture's "Specifications" box for its UL rating.
  • For exposed fixtures without porch or overhang protection, you'll need UL wet location fixtures.
  • Turnkey socket fixtures like the Weston can be built for damp locations, but this requires changing to porcelain sockets, which loses the turnkey look and function. Look for "damp if no turnkey" in turnkey fixture specs.
  • Outdoor UL lighting requirements can vary in different areas; consult with an electrician if you have questions.
