Why do some wall bracket specs state "install as shown"?
Wall brackets flagged "install as shown" should be mounted in the same orientation as they're pictured. Here's why:
UL laws determine the safe construction and safe usage of a fixture; our outdoor lights are a good example: Flip the Alsea upside down in an uncovered outdoor area, and you no longer meet UL regulations for wet locations.
Certain wall bracket designs, like the hook-through-loop connection on the Amity, require the light to hang in one position.
Historical authenticity is no small influence on us. For example, gas and electric reproduction lighting like our Astoria is shown with the large shade facing up, because this shade traditionally shielded the gas-powered flame. (Our gas and gas electric lighting is fully electric, but we faithfully build in period details like gas cocks - non-functional, of course.)
